Good Friday meaning

Good Friday is a Christian holiday. The day before Easter is known as Good Friday. On this day, Jesus was crucified and his death cavalry was present. Holy Friday, Great Friday, Great and Holy Friday, and Black Friday are some of the other names for Good Friday.

The entire week of Good Friday is referred to as holy week.

Good Friday is thus named because Christians think it has a positive connotation: it commemorates the anniversary of Jesus' suffering and death for their sins.

On both the Gregorian and Julian calendars, the date of Good Friday fluctuates from year to year. Eastern and Western Christianity disagree over the computation of the date of Easter and therefore of Good Friday. Good Friday is a widely observed legal holiday in many parts of the world, including most Western countries and 12 states in the United States.

Why is it called Good Friday?

There are a lot of theories regarding good Friday's name.

Many Christians and nonbelievers may find the term confusing because the day is traditionally regarded as solemn.

The first explanation claims that Good Friday was so named because it preceded Jesus' Resurrection and victory over death and sin, as well as the celebration of Easter, the climax of Christian celebrations.

The second theory is that the Good in Good Friday derives from God or “God’s Friday.”

The third and last theory is that Good Friday is called Good Friday because good implies 'holy.' This theory is accepted by everyone.

For Christians, though, the day has a much deeper meaning. Friday is when they remember the death of Jesus on the cross.

What happened on Good Friday.

On a Friday, after numerous trials and interrogations, Jesus was sentenced to death by crucifixion, a typical Roman punishment. The mob was given the option of releasing Jesus or Barabbas, a murderer, by the Roman emperor and the crowd picked Barabbas.

Jesus was flogged, a harsh punishment that resulted in the death of those who were flogged, and subsequently crucified. Jesus carried the cross that was fastened on him to the execution site. He became fatigued and in pain, and he was unable to move, so the Romans compelled a bartender named Simon of Cyrene to carry the cross for him.

Then, between two thieves, Jesus was crucified. One of the thieves cursed him, and the second thief answered, "When you come to your kingdom, remember me."

After six hours of agony, Jesus died. The robbers' legs were broken by the authorities.

Although Jesus was already dead, soldiers stabbed him in the heart to ensure his death.

Bodies were thrown into the lame pit when they were cast down, but Jesus' body was deposited in the tomb of Arimathea. And there was the end of a frantic good Friday.

Christians believe Jesus' death accomplished something great.
