Navratri Significance and Celebration:

Navratri is a 9-day festival that is held twice a year, honoring Goddess Durga who defeated the demon, Mahishasura in the battleground. Mahishasura was granted a blessing from the Creator of The World, Lord Bhrama for immortality with a condition that he could only be killed by a woman. In great ego, Mahishasura had a lot of confidence in himself, that no woman can even touch him and he will live his life as a mortal. Though, because of his evil deeds and acts, Goddess Durga, seeing his utter atrocities and insulting of the Gods, Goddess decided to go to war and defeated him there, killing him in her most anger and godly form.
Mostly the Hindu men and women go on fasting either on the first and last day of the whole 9 day period or some go on fasting for the whole 9 days. In the last 2 days of the event, people feed small girls as they are considered the form of Goddess Durga, so they are treated with a lot of respect, fed food and the one who organizes takes blessings from them considering to get blessings from the Goddess.
